-1 Encounters Through Sounds: Between off/online

In collaboration with -1 Digital Lab, Nieuwe Instituut researcher Federica Notari invites Angelina Nonaj to co-curate an evening program exploring the relationship between sound, digital networks, and identity. We will reflect on how digital platforms condition the ways we experience and share sound, the role of sound in forging new cultural identities, and what forms of presence and participation emerge as the boundaries between online and offline realms increasingly collapse. This gathering invites audiences to engage in an active process of listening, reflecting, and storytelling together.

The event invites Natalia Panzer (writer, DJ, and from Lynn), Benjamim Furtado (artist and producer), and Angelina Nonaj (artist and performer). Through a series of conversations interwoven with sonic performances, we will explore: how do digital platforms condition the ways we experience and share sound? What role does sound play in forging new cultural identities? And, in a world where the online and offline realms increasingly collapse into one another, what new forms of presence and participation emerge?

Through Sounds
Through Sounds is a research project led by Federica Notari exploring how and where we listen- whether in physical spaces like concert halls, raves, or city streets, or virtual ones like CDs, MP3s, and streaming platforms. From file sharing to streaming as music circulates, the boundaries between online and offline blur into a new, mixed reality.

1 Encounters is a series of immersive listening experiences, live performances, experiments, and conversations about digital culture, noise, and sound. -1 Digital Lab is the experimental digital lab and research studio in the basement of Nieuwe Instituut.
