With Through Sounds, -1 Digital Lab in the Nieuwe Instituut explores where and how we listen. It uncovers the listening infrastructures of physical spaces, like raves and concert halls, but also the digital spheres, in which streaming and file sharing proliferate. As the urban space faces growing pressure, listening spaces are forced to revert to temporary and virtual environments.

-1 Digital Lab is dedicated to exploring digital culture and multi-media. With this project, the platform investigates the intersections of sound, identity, and networked environments. Through Sounds views listening as a technological and social act, asking: What role does sound play in identity formation? Which forms of presence are created in a world where online and offline blur? Join -1 and the Nieuwe Instituut in their exploration of these matters!
