About this event

This year, Knights for Rare will benefit the Acanthamoeba Keratitis (AK) Eye Foundation. It is the first foundation in the world dedicated to Acanthamoeba Keratitis, a devastating and rare eye disease that accounts for 50% of blindness among contact lens users.

The AK Eye Foundation was founded in 2022 by AK Warrior, Juliette Vila Sinclair Spence, and is based in the Netherlands. The mission of the AK Eye foundation is to raise global awareness by educating contact lens users, medical communities, and other stakeholders. The AK Eye Foundation is a member of Eurordis and has a strong Facebook community where AK Warriors can find support. Juliette is our 2023 Rare Star!

Join 60+ biotech executives, investors, public officials, and rare disease advocates to support this important cause.

All proceeds and donations from Knights for Rare will go directly to the Acanthamoeba Keratitis Eye Foundation.

Avanzanite is on a mission to boost orphan drug access across Europe and beyond. Derived from the word ‘Tanzanite’ – one of the rarest and most underappreciated gemstones on earth – Avanzanite was formed to capitalize on two primary objectives, one economic, and one humanitarian.

The economic goal is to offer end-to-end commercialization and distribution partnerships with research-based biopharmaceutical originators to unlock the full value of their orphan medicines in European markets. This is the unique expertise and core competency of our team following decades of operating experience navigating this area.

Equally important, our humanitarian goals stem from our commitment to enabling access to novel medicines for patients who suffer from rare diseases regardless of where in Europe they live.
