About this event
✨ From Code to Career: Women Shaping AI ✨
Innovation Centre for AI (ICAI) and AI4ALL Women are teaming up for an evening of real talk, shared experiences, and honest insights about working in AI. Whether you're deep in your PhD, building your industry career, or just curious about where AI can take you, this event is for you.
You'll hear three stories from women at different stages of their AI journeys; they will speak about their careers as well as what their work on AI entails:
1. Diana Almeida, Principal Product Manager for Machine Learning at Booking.com
2. Dieuwke Hupkes, Research Scientist at Meta AI Research
3. Issa Hanou, 3rd Year PhD Student in Automated Planning at TU Delft (RAIL Lab)
🌟 We invite you to an open space to learn, ask questions, and connect with others who care about shaping the future of AI (and making space for more women in it).
Come for the stories, stay for the conversations.
And as always, a community spotlight — bring something you’re working on, thinking about, or excited to share. You’ll have one minute and a curious audience ready to listen.
Program:
17:30 Walk-in starts
18:00 Speaker talks + discussions
19:25 Community spotlight
19:30 Networking & drinks*
* Your ticket includes two complimentary drinks!
📢 Meet our speakers:
1. Diana Almeida is a Principal Product Manager for Machine Learning at Booking.com where she spearheads transformative AI-driven product initiatives, drawing on her deep expertise in computer science and entrepreneurial experience. With over 15 years in product management, including 8 years at Booking.com, Diana has led pivotal advancements in areas like Responsible AI and Generative AI, becoming a key strategic voice within the company. She is also a dedicated mentor, championing women’s empowerment in tech by guiding the next generation of female tech leaders.
2. Dieuwke Hupkes is a research scientist at Meta AI Research, where she explores the inner workings of neural networks in natural language processing. She completed her PhD at the Institute for Logic, Language and Computation (ILLC) at UvA, followed by a postdoc at the Amsterdam unit of ELLIS. Dieuwke originally studied physics before following her passion for natural language and completing a Master’s in Logic at the University of Amsterdam. Her work sits at the intersection of language, logic, and learning — and she continues to be fascinated by the complexity and beauty of language as a system.
3. Issa Hanou is a third-year PhD candidate at TU Delft, working in the RAIL lab with Utrecht University, NS, and ProRail. She works in Automated Planning, applying these methods to the railway hub logistics problems, where they move trains between the station and the shunting yard. She has been working on a method for delay replanning to quickly find a new train route without affecting other trains. Furthermore, Issa is identifying strategies to detect abstract patterns in plans that can be used to create new plans more efficiently, as well as provide a high-level overview of the main subgoals of the plan.
