As a finissage of the exhibition 'Slow Drift(s) Chapter 2: Larry Achiampong &amp; David Blandy' at The Balcony, the artists invite you to join an informal evening of play and discussion. The event will take place online in the Animal Crossing game, where you will be able to join the artist’s island as they game and engage in conversation, but you can also follow the event via a Twitch stream. The second chapter of the program Slow Drift(s) at The Balcony presents their Finding Fanon trilogy, a body of work departing from the writings of Martinican philosopher Frantz Fanon. Traversing Fanon’s musings with personal experiences, the series demonstrates the contemporary relevance of 20th-century concerns with colonial attitudes and sketches their implications in the context of the information age. In addition to traditional filmmaking, the artists resort to more unconventional techniques for video-making such as recording characters inside popular free-roaming open world video games. This has allowed them to incorporate the participation of different communities and harness the constructedness of virtual space as a metaphor for societal barriers.
