Poets, writers, musicians from around the world come together for "Vidas Assata!: Een lezing voor Assata”/Assata Lives!: A Reading for Assata Shakur to celebrate the life Assata Olugbala Shakur, this writer, poet, Black Panther, Black Liberation Army activist and mother who was given political asylum in Cuba after her 1979 escape from the USA. She was born in NYC and was able to remain free in Cuba. She joined the ancestors on September 25, 2025 at age 78.

Poetry, performance, and readings from her autobiography “Assata Shakur: An Autobiography”, short video and more in celebration of her life. This event is for all ages. Entree is “pay what you can”.
