Our next event will take place on Monday, September 29th at Culture Café Leidse Lente at 20:00 CEST!
Following our summer break, we are back with an exciting event about the ingredients that make up the Universe: Molecules! Join us to learn what other galaxies are made of with the talk by Mathilde Bouvier, and what experiments scientists use to understand these complex environments with the talk by Franciele Kruczkiewicz.
As always, there will be fun games with which you can test your knowledge and try to win cool science prizes!
----------------------------------------------------------------------
• Mathilde Bouvier: “The astrochemical link between galaxies and bars”
Mathilde is a postdoctoral researcher at Leiden Observatory. Her work focuses on extragalactic astrochemistry: She studies molecules present in external galaxies to understand the structure and conditions (temperature, density) of extragalactic star-forming regions. In this talk, she will focus on the most complex molecules detected towards one of the nearest starburst galaxies, NGC 253, and present what they have taught us.
• Franciele Kruczkiewicz: “Imagining Interstellar Ice: a laboratory perspective across art & science”
Franciele is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie research fellow in astrochemistry at Leiden Observatory. Her work explores how complex molecules form in interstellar ices, the frozen layers of dust grains found in the coldest regions of space, where stars and planets begin to form. Using ultra-high vacuum experiments at extremely low temperatures, she simulates the chemistry that may have led to the emergence of life. In this talk, Franciele will also share a photography project developed in the lab, using visual repetition to reflect the invisible and methodical nature of her experiments.

Logistical information: We start at 20:00 sharp, so please arrive earlier to enter the venue, save a seat, and grab a drink. We are not planning to stream the event live but will be uploading a recording of the talks on our YouTube channel after the event.
Join us for an evening of astronomy and fun games where you can win cool science prizes! All ages and backgrounds are welcome!
