Bach & Breakfast - Organ Recital

Not your typical Bed & Breakfast (B&B) — it’s Bach & Breakfast: morning music for the soul. A morning organ concert performed by Herman Lai.

Join us for a complimentary breakfast before the concert, followed by organ music full of color and variety — all in the unique setting of Kruiskerk Amstelveen, known for its distinctive architecture and hundreds of square windows.

The program features the Eight Little Preludes and Fugues, a collection often debated among scholars — were they composed by Bach, his pupils, or other musicians from his time? Regardless of authorship, these eight pieces remain artistically valuable and beloved by organists.

The program concludes with a contemporary piece: Limina Luminis (Latin for “Threshold of Light”), composed by Olivia Belli. Commissioned by BBC Radio 3, the work was first performed in 2023.

Main Organ | Kruiskerk Amstelveen

The main organ was built in 1951. It is an important instrument in the oeuvre of organ builder D.A. Flentrop (Zaandam). In 1991, the firm Hendriksen & Reitsma (Nunspeet) added a Terts 1 3/5′ on the slider of the Spitsquint 2 2/3′. In 1995, the instrument was cleaned and revoiced. In 2007, another cleaning was carried out by Flentrop Orgelbouw. In 2014, Flentrop extended the resonators of the reed stops...
