About this event
Join us for an afternoon where we look back on Le Tour de France Femmes and discuss the future of women's cycling.
The inaugural edition of Le Tour de France Femmes was a historic moment for women's cycling! We’re celebrating this pivotal moment in women’s cycling with some of the leaders in the sport. Champions on the road and drivers of change: Reigning World Time Trial Champion Ellen van Dijk, former professional cyclist and co-founder of The Cyclists’ Alliance Iris Slappendel, Head of Flanders Classics Women Maja Leye and ultra racer Nancy Ankiny. The panel discussion will be hosted by Jose Been.
Women's cycling has been going through a stormy progression in recent years. The introduction of the World Tour, more professional teams, more media attention and, above all, a higher level and attractive races. Le Tour de France femmes felt like an important milestone in that development. But we are not there yet! Consider the lack of full-fledged live coverage, salaries and the unequal distribution of prize money.
Should we strive for equality within cycling? Or would women's sport be better off choosing its own route to success? During this afternoon, we will celebrate success and milestones, but also discuss the opportunities that remain.
The event is part of the Bicycle Film Festival and co-organised by The Cyclists' Alliance and BBB Cycling. Leading up to the panel discussion there is a women-led social ride from Ride Out, open for everyone.
