BioTwist: Working in R&D in the Life Science Industry

Bionitiativeis a group of PhD students and Science Professionals at theVrijeUniversiteitBrussel passionate about Life Sciences and continuous education.Our mission is to provide aspiring scientists and students a broad view on the career opportunities and business processes in different sectors of the healthcare and life science industry, by organizing educational and networking events. Through our initiatives we hope to bridge the gap between academia and industry and to improve an understanding of the scientific and business processess  that drive basic research to new standards of care.

Looking for a career in the Life Science industry? Or simply curious towards the scientific and business processes that drive basic research into new standards of care?
Join the 2nd edition of BioTwist during the WeKONEKT.Brussels week and discover the R&D sector of the Life Science and Healthcare industry on the 29th of March at ViaVia café in Brussels! In this edition, we discuss the process of R&D in industry, the various careers necessary within this process, the qualities needed to succeed in these careers and how businesses can greatly improve their R&D through effective project management and business process transformation. 
As usual, drinks will be served throughout the evening with plenty of networking with professionals and recruiters, a workshop, and job opportunities by <A HREF="http://www.valesta.be/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Valesta</A>! This event is part of We.KONEKT.brussels and is open to everyone from bachelor student to Postdoc.
 
Option: Early bird job interview workshop
Together with the VUB career center and XPE pharma, we organize a 1 hour workshop on ‘how to ace the job interview’ starting at 18:00. This workshop is open to all life science students from all universities, but seats are limited. This workshop is fully booked, but you can put yourself on the waiting list by sending an e-mail to info@bionitiative.be.

<A HREF="http://www.valesta.be/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Valesta</A>: Career guidance in the world of Life Sciences: With almost 20 years of experience in recruitment and professional development in clinical R&D, Valesta will be giving a presentation on the different career paths within clinical R&D, the skills required to succeed in these careers and what professional recruitment agencies look for in job applicants.
 
PhD, PharmD, MsC in industrial pharmacy and VUB alumna Marie Lemper will present the different stages of the non-clinical drug development pipeline, the careers associated to each stage and real-life examples on the challenges and issues that arise during this process. As a current senior scientist Discovery Toxicologist at <A HREF="https://www.ucb.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UCB</A>, she will also talk about her experience on transitioning as a PhD to industry and how the skills obtained during her PhD helped her succeed in her career. 
 
<A HREF="http://www.c-mast.com" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CMAST</A>: As a Management Consulting Company in the Life Sciences, CMAST focuses on creating competitive advantages for life science companies through effective project management and improving business processes. In their presentation, they will be showcasing these concepts and the daily tasks and challenges of a management consultant through several business cases.
