About / Origins:
This monthly call was originally born out of a desire to create an affinity group space for BIPOC folks affiliated with Authentic Relating Training International (ART). We now feel called to extend this monthly community call to serve as a practice container for those who are, in general, interested in relational mindfulness practices regardless if they’re part of an existing group like ART. Beginners are very welcome!
The intention is for a co-created space to explore our unique experiences as members of the Global Majority through the lens of the 5 practices of authentic relating: 1) Welcome everything, 2) Assume nothing, 3) Reveal your experience, 4) Own your experience, and 5) Honor self and other.
Each time, we hope to alternate between:
• CONNECTION: Playing authentic relating games (structured activities of mindful awareness, sharing, and listening) around a theme and
• PROCESSING: Using the container and AR practices to work with a topic that might be impacting your life as a person of color.
This community call is for you if you:
• Are seeking a place where you can bring your lived experience with race, ethnicity or culture while practicing authentic relating,
• Are looking to share more of your full self without having to worry about caretaking or educating others on your racial or cultural identity,
• Are craving a container to speak about topics such as privilege, power dynamics, tokenism, microaggressions, generational trauma, body autonomy, living as an expat / [im]migrant, etc. in a mindful and heart-centered way,
• Want to build up your own confidence and competency speaking mindfully and relationally about racial and ethnic identity, racial and ethnic diversity, how race and ethnicity intersects with other identities, and your lived experience,
• Are seeking authentic community with other people of color who believe in the power of relational mindfulness practices.
Your facilitators:
• Steph (she/they): Steph found her way to the Authentic Relating world from Interpersonal Dynamics T-groups as a tech startup founder seeking a better way to lead and bring more of ourselves into more spaces we inhabit. Certified in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Steph brings a DEI lens to her relational practice, and grounds her facilitation in mindfulness traditions. Steph graduated from ART International’s facilitator program in 2024. She believes in the power of naming, owning, and sharing our privileges. Her values are self-knowledge, inclusion, stewardship, and collective liberation.
• Kirien (they/he): Kirien brings a lifetime of experience living, working and loving across geographical boundaries to their authentic vocation as a guide of relational mindfulness practices. They are passionate about the power of online community to bring together globally diverse perspectives. Kirien also facilitates donation-based events with Authentic Relating Go and offers 1:1 coaching and mentoring.
