Wat betekent het om wortels te hebben in verschillende landen? Welke verhalen ken je en wat valt er te ontdekken? Debaltsevo, Where Are You? is een persoonlijk verhaal over de fascinerende en ongrijpbare zoektocht naar je afkomst.Het evenement is gratis. Het evenement is in het Nederlands. Inschrijven kan via Eventbrite.Fotograaf Karine Zenja Versluis begon haar zoektocht in 2013 toen ze besloot haar familie- geschiedenis te onderzoeken in de stad Debaltseve, Donbas, Oekraïne. De plek waar haar oma is geboren. Onderweg, voor meer dan tien jaar, liep alles anders dan verwacht. De zoektocht zelf werd de rode draad in het verhaal.Een verhaal verteld vanuit verschillende perspectieven. We volgen de geschiedenis van haar grootmoeder, die tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog gedwongen werd Debaltseve (Debaltsevo in haar oma’s herinnering) te verlaten om in een Duits kamp te werken. We maken kennis met drie Oekraïense families die, door een andere oorlog, in 2015 de stad Debaltseve hebben verlaten, en opnieuw moesten vluchten in 2022. En we reizen mee met de verteller zelf, van Nederland naar Oekraïne, op zoek naar een stad. Tijdens deze reis stelt Versluis zich de vraag hoe het verhaal van haar oma haar eigen leven heeft beïnvloed. Voortdurend ingehaald door de actuele ontwikkelingen veranderen haar plannen keer op keer, wat symbool staat voor de raadselachtige zoektocht naar haar eigen identiteit. Het werk bestaat uit archiefbeelden, foto’s en teksten in het Engels, met een online beschikbare Nederlandse en Oekraïense vertaling.Karine Zenja Versluis zal het eerste exemplaar van de publicatie overhandigen aan Evgeniy Levchenko die in ruil daarvoor zijn persoonlijke verhaal en ervaring met de stad Debaltseve zal delen.Debaltsevo, Where Are You? gaat gepaard met een tijdelijke tentoonstelling over de zoektocht van de kunstenaar naar haar eigen wortels en erfgoed en het creatieproces van deze publicatie.De tentoonstelling zal te zien zijn bij Framer Framed van 19 februari tot 5 maart 2023.Programma15:00 Deuren open15:30 Welkomstwoord door Josien Pieterse directeur van Framer Framed. What are the stories that are known and what is there to find out? Debaltsevo, Where Are You? is a personal story about the fascinating and elusive search for your heritage.The event is free of charge. The event will be in Dutch. Please register via Eventbrite.Photographer Karine Zenja Versluis started her own quest in 2013 when she decided to explore her family history in the city of Debaltseve, Donbas, Ukraine. The place where her grandmother was born. Along the way, for more than ten years, everything went differently than expected. The quest became a red thread in the story.A story told from different perspectives. We follow the history of her grandmother, who was forced to leave Debaltseve (Debaltsevo in her grandmother’s memories) and work in a German labor camp during World War II. We get to know three Ukrainian families who, due to another war, escaped the city of Debaltseve in 2015, and 2022. And we travel with the narrator herself, from the Netherlands to Ukraine, in search of a city. During this journey, Versluis asks herself how her grandmother’s story influenced her own life. Constantly overtaken by current events her plans change again and again, symbolizing the puzzling search for her own identity. The work consists of archival images, photographs, and texts in English, with an online available Dutch and Ukrainian translation.Karine Zenja Versluis will present the first copy of the publication to Evgeniy Levchenko who in return will share his personal story and experience with the city of Debaltseve.Debaltsevo, Where Are You? is accompanied by a temporary exhibition demonstrating the artist&#x27;s quest to discover her own roots and heritage and the process of creating this publication.The exhibition will be in view at Framer Framed from the 19th of February until the 5th of March 2023.Program15:00 Doors open15:30 Welcoming talk by Josien Pieterse director of Framer Framed.
