Booklaunch DESIGN DEDICATION
Sandberg Instituut and Valiz Publishers would like to invite you for the book launch and celebration of Design Dedication: Adaptive Mentalities in Design Education, edited by Annelys de Vet — who headed the Design Department from 2009 to 2019. This publication focuses on how that decade at the department shaped the ideas on design education, its current challenges and its future urgencies.
What do we talk about when we talk about design? How to work from experience and narration? How can we imagine and propose alternative systems of value through design? Design Dedication makes a plea for adaptive mentalities within design pedagogy. It does this by zooming in on the experiences, mindsets and ideas of the Design Department of the Sandberg Instituut, with a focus on the past decade. The various contributions to this book reveal an attitude in and towards design education that is socially engaged, politically aware, generous in approach, lyrical in tone, experimental in form, and collaborative in practice. As a whole, it searches for a mentality for modes of practices that manifest what one cares about.
