During this early summer day we will travel to the medieval town of Bouillon in the green Ardennes region. Known as the Pearl of the Semois, the small city sits in a sharp curve in the Semois river and is especially famous for the impressive Bouillon castle that dates back to the 9th century.

In the morning we will visit the Bouillon castle with an official English-speaking guide who will take us through the most important parts of this amazing medieval complex. You will learn all about the people that lived and worked here throughout the centuries.

As usual, you will be able to enjoy the tour optimally with our state-of-the-art audio equipment so you don't have to miss a word. The guide will tell us about the 1,200 year history of this castle and shows us all the major areas.

At the end of the tour we will be able to watch the entertaining and cool live Falconry show. About a dozen birds of prey will show their beauty and flying skills. If you don't like birds, definitely make sure to find refuge, because they are trained to fly just over your heads (don't worry, it's safe).

After the show you can either explore the castle further on your own, or walk down to the village itself, have lunch and visit the tourist shops. For the afternoon you have two options. If you like kayaking, you should certainly join the majority of the group for some paddling down the Semois river that winds itself through the lush green Ardennes hills.

In case you would rather sniff up some more culture, we will organize visits to the Archéoscope that shows the impressive history of the crusades and of 2,000 years of conflicts and settlements.

Additionally you can visit the Ducal Museum in a beautiful 17th century building, where you can discover more about the history of Godfried de Bouillon, folklore, and metallurgy. Finally, there are some lovely short hikes around the village.

Most of us will join for the kayaking trip of about 15km. This seems far, but it just takes 3,5 to max 4 hours of easy downstream paddling. You don't need experience to kayak, you will learn within the first minutes how it works. And since there are kayaks for two persons available, you can always hook up with another person from our group. The kayaks have comfort seats.

The Semois river is not deep, so in case you're not a great swimmer, you should know that you can stand virtually everywhere. There are no rapids / waterfalls on this part of the river, so the chances of getting wet are minimal. The Semois is a quite river with green hills on both sides. Along the way you will see the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Clairefontaine, the Moulin de Rivage and the impressive Tombeau de Geant (see below). But of course being in nature with other expats is probably the most fun and memorable experience.

Along the way there are a few areas where you can land your boat and eventually eat something. Bringing some snacks and drinks is advised though, and there are special water tight buckets available for these items, your clothes and other possessions (e.g. cell phones and cameras). At the end of the trip, there is a restaurant and snack stand, so you can celebrate your kayaking achievement with some great food!

We are leaving at 8h30 from Place Schuman by luxury 4* coach with comfort seats, extra leg space, AC, DVD and flatscreens. There is also an on-board toilet available and we serve you some drinks and snacks. The bus leaves again around 18h30 and we'll be back on Place Schuman at about 20h30. Both ways we make a stop close to metro Delta.
