“Improving vaccine design with AI-based protein engineering”
Over the past few years, my focus has been on leveraging AI models to generate protein mutations that enhance stability and expression. This aspect is crucial in viral vaccine design, particularly for using viral spikes as immunogens. These spikes are typically metastable and tend to have low expression levels. Our work has demonstrated that even relatively straightforward convolutional AI models outperform the traditional physics-based methods prevalent in protein design. We've successfully identified stabilizing mutations for hundreds of mutants across various targets, and developed immunogens for in vivo studies, marking significant progress in the field.

“In today's rapidly evolving biomedicine landscape, digital transformation is essential for biotech and biopharma”
Amidst the hype, practicality is crucial. We will present a practical roadmap to guide successful digital transformation, emphasizing data management and AI and punctuated by real-life case studies that showcase tangible benefits such as accelerated drug discovery and optimized operations. Drawing on BioLizard’s experience in supporting biotech and biopharma in both data-driven strategy and implementation of digital technologies, we will demonstrate the importance of adopting a data-centric business strategy from data collection and storage to implementation of ML to integrate complex biological data - to ultimately deliver on the promise of data-driven technologies.
