The Climate Exchange Platform is a network of art academies that center art & the ecological crisis. It offers an online space for dialogue.

Please join Azul Duque and Dani D'Emilia of Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures, along with Jay Jordan and Isa Fremeaux from the Laboratory for Insurrectionary Imagination for a participatory workshop that looks at how to bring theories of change into practice.Questions to be discussed include: What is your theory of change? And how does political extremism alter political systems themselves, and (how) can art intervene? Members of the two groups will each give a 40-minute presentation and/or workshop, followed by 30 minutes of discussion between the two groups, facilitated by the session organisers. Panelists:Azul Duque and Dani D'Emilia, members of Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures. Gesturing Towards Decolonial Futures (GTDF) is a trans-disciplinary multi-generational art/research collective that develops technologies of inquiry through artistic, pedagogical, cartographic, and relational experiments that aim to identify and deactivate colonial habits of being. It is a practice dedicated to hospicing worlds that are dying within and around us with care and integrity. Their multi-layered work invites us to face our complicity in violence and unsustainability and its implications with the courage of really seeking to connect with the collective pain, past, present and future. As we learn to recognize that we are an extension of the land-metabolism that is the planet, not the other way around, GTDF is committed to strengthening our collective capacities to prepare for the end of the world as we know it, and showing up differently so that “another end of the world” becomes possible.Jay Jordan and Isa Fremeaux, co-initiators of The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination. The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination brings artists and activists together to design tools and acts of disobedience. The Lab is infamous for launching a rebel raft regatta to shut down a coal fired power station, turning bikes into machines of disobedience during a climate summit, building an illegal working lighthouse on the site of a proposed airport control tower and refusing to be censored by the (once) BP sponsored Tate gallery.This online workshop is organised by Madalen Claire Benson, Jane Lawson, Marik de Koning and Julien Thomas. The Climate Exchange Platform will launch throughout April and May 2024 with a series of four online workshops and panel discussions. It is a network of participating art academies and post-academic institutes including the Planetary Poetics master's programme at the Sandberg Institute in Amsterdam, the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Art and Ecology master's programme at Goldsmiths University in London and the Center for Creative Ecologies at the University of California in Santa Cruz.Through the Climate Exchange Platform we want to share experiences, perspectives, and working methods between art schools with programs focused on aesthetics and ecology--particularly those that directly focus their artistic practices on the unfolding ecological catastrophe--and the public at large. The development of the platform is organised by students and alumni from the various participating art schools under the guidance of artist Dorine van Meel. This first series of online panel discussions and workshops is organized by members of the platform. The Climate Exchange Platform is initiated by Planetary Poetics at the Sandberg Instituut (Amsterdam) and supported by VIS, Virtuele Internationale Samenwerking.
