He is the founder of <a href="https://www.typotheque.com/" title="https://www.typotheque.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Typotheque</a>, which specializes in type design, typography and branding. Whether as small as postage stamps, or as large as major exhibitions or branding projects, <a href="https://peterbilak.com/work" title="https://peterbilak.com/work" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">his work</a> is characterised by deep engagement with the content and audience.He prefers to get involved in projects in their early, conceptual phases and many of his endeavours have challenged the status quo: he co-founded Dot Dot Dot, a seminal art and culture magazine, and also <a href="https://worksthatwork.com/" title="https://worksthatwork.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Works That Work</a>, a magazine of unexpected creativity that not only broadened the definition of design but also introduced new models of operations for independent periodicals.He co-founded <a href="https://fontstand.com/" title="https://fontstand.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Fontstand</a>, a new way of discovering and licensing fonts, as well as <a href="https://tptq-arabic.com/" title="https://tptq-arabic.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">TPTQ Arabic</a>, a company focused on the development of modern and authentic Arabic typefaces. His longstanding collaboration with the choreographer Lukáš Timulak led to starting <a href="http://make-move-think.org/" title="http://make-move-think.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Make Move Think</a>, a foundation for interdisciplinary artistic collaboration. Peter <a href="https://peterbilak.com/writing" title="https://peterbilak.com/writing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">writes</a> and <a href="https://peterbilak.com/lecturing" title="https://peterbilak.com/lecturing" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">lectures</a> worldwide about the possibilities of design. CMDonderdag In this new series of meetups (CMDonderdag) at CMD in Amsterdam we try to find an answer to a few simple sounding, yet complicated questions. In our new vision we state that we teach our students to become critical designers. But what exactly makes a critical designer a critical designer? And related, what is good design, and what is needed to turn a designer into a good designer. We will invite a diverse group of designers, makers, artists and other (digital) experts to try to find answers to these questions.Our first guest is no other than Peter Biľak. In an essay in one of his Works That Work magazines he once wrote that good design is when design benefits all parties involved. Which sound like a fantastic and clear definition of good design to kick off this series with.
