cOAlition S Rights Retention Strategy: key facts and role for publishers

The webinar will include a presentation of cOAlition S representatives and a subsequent STM member-only session.

This webinar, co-organised by STM and cOAlition S, will help STM Members to better understand the Rights Retention Strategy while providing room for an in-depth discussion with representatives of cOAlition S. In September 2018 a group of funding organisations announced the launch of cOAlition S, an initiative to accelerate full and immediate Open Access to peer-reviewed research publications. It is built around Plan S which consists of one target and 10 principles. In July 2020, cOAlition S announced their Rights Retentions Strategy (RRS), outlined as an implementation of Principle 1 in Plan S which requires that authors retain their copyright to their publications – Accepted Manuscripts (AMs) or Version of Record (VoR) which must be published under an open license (CC-BY, or by exception, if so decided by a cOAlition S Organisation, CC-BY-ND). In this webinar, representatives of cOAlition S will explain in detail the Rights Retention Strategy. The Webinar will offer the opportunity for STM members to have an open and informed discussion about this new strategy. AgendaAgenda1. Plan S requires that from 2021, all scholarly publications on the results from research funded by public or private grants provided by national, regional and international research councils and funding bodies, must be published in open access journals or on open access platforms or made immediately available through open access repositories without embargo.
