About the Workshop

Do you ever feel like your material takes too long to get to the joke? Or that you could add more to an idea and expand the funny? Maybe you have something to say but no clue how to make it actually work. Or you know you're funny, but you're struggling to find what to talk about on stage.

Writing comedy is about finding, shaping, trimming, and expanding your material in a way that brings out your own unique voice—and hopefully, lots of laughs. But knowing when you've said enough, too little, or too much can be tricky, and sharpening your material is a long but rewarding process.

This four-hour workshop is designed to help you develop your own effective and affirming approach to your comedy. Group feedback, expert guidance, exercises and ideas will let you gain a clearer, focused look at your material and you’ll learn how to make your stuff as funny as possible.

Whether you're just starting out or looking to refine your set, this workshop will give you the tools to write, edit, and elevate your comedy.

How to Prepare

Please bring a comedy bit you’ve written, no longer than five minutes (about one A4 page) or shorter. If you’ve never performed on stage before, no problem—just write and let your ideas flow!

About the Instructor

Manuel Wolff is a professional stand-up comedian with over 20 years of experience, performing in both English and German. He is the founder and host of BOING! Comedy Club in Cologne, a key hotspot in the German stand-up scene for over 13 years.

He was featured in the documentary Laughs in Translation as Germany’s comedy representative in a global exploration of humour. He was also invited to give a TEDx talk, Creating World Peace – One Laugh at a Time. As an experienced comedian with multiple comedy awards and TV appearances, he has performed internationally in Amsterdam, Brussels, Helsinki, and London, to name but a few.

Manuel regularly teaches comedy workshops across Germany and also offers online comedy coaching via Zoom, which has been highly appreciated by participants. In his workshops, he helps participants discover and refine their unique comedic voice, developing a personal approach to stand-up that feels authentic and true to them.

Having performed worldwide, he firmly believes that laughter is universal and should always be encouraged.
