Community Connect: Your Story, Your Voice

Amsterdam United is the intersectional student platform at the University of Amsterdam. Two core missions of ours are creating community and making the university a more inclusive, safe environment for students of all backgrounds to study at.  Amsterdam United has organized various events and initiatives to reflect these goals, such as film screenings, debates on decolonizing education, and mental health workshops.

Let's talk about the importance of finding power in telling our stories, together!

With this event we want to introduce participants to the AU Community Connect Project. Your story, your voice provides an opportunity to create a community and foster a sense of belonging. Through storytelling, activities on finding your voice, and discussions on identity, we hope that people of all backgrounds could come together in a safe space to feel seen, heard, and empowered in their story. This event encompasses what AU stands for: For Us, By Us. We aim to hold space for students to feel empowered in sharing their story from an authentic place. After a short introduction to our organization and the event, we will invite participants to share their story, their way. We invite you to bring any form of expression to share during the first segment of the event, such as a poem, painting, or song. There will also be some materials provided for writing/creating during the beginning of the event. Following the space held for sharing stories, there will be a short discussion on expression &amp; identity in small groups. After a short break, the final segment of the event will encompass a speed-friending session. We will provide prompts surrounding identity and narration such as “what has made you most proud of yourself in the past year”. Doors will open at 18:30 and the event will start at 19:00.
