About this event
ANP|WWF Portugal, World Fish Migration Foundation, Wetlands International, Open Rivers Programme and The Nature Conservancy invite you for the 7th Dam Removal Europe seminar. This time we will focus on scaling up dam removal and that can help enhancing the biodiversity of rivers across Europe. Speakers from the USA and several European countries will touch base on their best practices.
The event is open to river authorities, ministries, policy makers, EU project managers, companies, engineers, researchers, students, and social experts, and so on.
The third day of the event will include a trip to visit a potential barrier to be removed. The seminar is part of the global World Fish Migration Day celebrations and one of the highlights will be the Portuguese premiere of the DAMBUSTERS documentary.

Seminar program
The program on May 19 and 20 will include presentations from international experts, live on-site interviews, discussions session with the speakers, movie screening, and much more! The third day will be an excursion to a dam removal site. Details will follow in April. Learn more about the full seminar program here
LIFE Lunch Session (May20, 13:10-14:10 hours):
Dam Removal Europe, LIFE program 30 years campaign of CINEA and the LIFE project Fish Migration River from the Netherlands jointly organize a special session at the international seminar on Connected Rivers in Lisbon. The session will be on the latest news on the EU LIFE program with a specific focus on the possibilities for free flowing rivers and dam removals.
As well it will to an opportunity to meet other LIFE projects, exchange knowledge and experience and get inspiration for a new LIFE project. The program will be as follows:
- Introduction, Jeroen van Herk, OAK CONSULTANTS
- Overview of the EU LIFE program for the coming years, by Ilenia Babetto, CINEA;
- Conversation on the possibilities of the LIFE program for free flowing rivers/dam removal and what is needed in the different countries
- Closure and agreements
Registration & Refund Policy
The tickets for May 19 and 20 include lunch, coffee and tea. The excursion ticket for May 21 includes bus rental and a lunch box. Tickets for the excursion are sold out. The bus will return in Lisbon around 16:00 hours local time.
By registering, you are accepting that we include your name and affiliation (no email addresses) on a registration list that we will facilitate to all attendees.
The tickets are refundable until 30 days before the event.
COVID or other restrictions policy
The event will follow the rules and regulations concerning COVID in Portugal. We are optimistic and confident that May will be a good moment for hosting such event and therefore on the possibility of hosting it live. If new COVID travel or other major restrictions are enforced in Europe during the upcoming months, we will postpone the event or turn it into a digital webinar.
