Getting ready for the viva
The viva or thesis defence is the highlight of the doctoral process and is the one time candidates have the opportunity to discuss their work with peers who have read the work and prepared questions, comments and feedback to confirm that the body of work is worthy of a doctoral award. The viva chapter from the book The Mature Student's Guide to Completing a Doctorate will be used as the basis of the session; attendees will also reflect on what the doctoral experience has given them and the expertise they have developed.
Unconventional Doctorates Community and close
Our purpose is to tackle low completion rates among doctoral candidates, particularly those from underrepresented groups, who are self-funded or not working in education. You are welcome to join the community. Ways to get involved will be briefly mentioned in the session.
