Cruising Archaeology II: EurotrashAs part of the release of Cruising Archaeology II: Eurotrash, Scollard, the artist behind the project, will present an activated workshop ‘dig’ at the designated cruising area at De Nieuwe Meer. The dig will replicate the process of the project in foraging for discarded material artefacts in cruising locations and configuring them as pieces of sexual archaeology. The ‘dig’ will be followed by an informal discussion about the objects retrieved, their significance and a wider discussion about the aims of the project. Practical Info<ul><li>Saturday 16 May at 16:00-17:30uur</li><li>Location: The meeting point before the workshop will be at the "Giant Pink Glasses". You can find this landmark on Google Maps across from the Mercure Hotel and near the bus stop Anderlechtlaan.</li><li>Jack from SMUT Press will bring gloves and small grip-seal bags for your recovered artefacts. And of course some copies of their new publication.</li><li>The workshop starts with some guidelines, recommendations and time to get to know each other and SMUT's project.</li><li>It's a collaborative archiving workshop and if you'd like to, you're welcome to donate your recovered artefact to the archive page.</li><li>We end the workshop with a hangout and discussion to reflect on our findings.</li><li>Lastly, if it's gonna be nice weather feel free to bring picnic blankets, drinks or snacks.</li></ul> SMUT Press is a London-based print collective founded in 2022 by Jordan Hearns and Jack Scollard. Emerging from collaborative work across audio/visual, installation, and publishing, it supports and commissions queer artists to produce printed matter. The project has since expanded to include quarterly events that connect communities across nightlife and artistic production.Cruising Archaeology is an ongoing artistic inquiry by Scollard. First presented as an Instagram account and later as a book published by SMUT, Cruising Archaeology has documented hundreds of unique objects retrieved from cruising areas. Using methods taken from the field of archaeology, these items, often discarded or overlooked, are repositioned as relics of a subcultural sexual practice. By applying the rigour of archaeology to the ephemeral nature of the cruising ground, Scollard explores the tension between preservation and disappearance. In May 2026, the follow up sequel book Cruising Archaeology II: Eurotrash will be released across a series of launch events.
