A Data Carpentry workshop aims to teach researchers basic concepts, skills and tools for working with data, so that they can get more done in less time and with less pain.

This workshop teaches data management and analysis for tabular data using a social sciences example data set. In the workshop you will learn best practices for data organization in spreadsheets, reproducible data cleaning with OpenRefine, and an introduction to data analysis and visualization with R.

Participants must have access to a computer with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) that they have administrative privileges on. Participants should follow software setup and data download instructions before the workshop.

The course is aimed at graduate students and other researchers. You don't need to have any previous knowledge of the tools that will be presented at the workshop.
