Data-driven career choices?! A data scientist’s perspective!

Data scientists like to use data for everything, whether this is to help companies reduce their carbon foot-print or to optimize a supply chain process. So how about using this same analytical mindset to make career choices as well? Will this bring us happiness and success in life?

Being a data scientist, Frank Buters will take you along his own career path so far, share some of the choices he made and some of the choices he could have done without. By being open and vulnerable about his own career path, he hopes to share something different compared to typical career success stories found on social media.

Besides sharing his story, Frank will actively seek out the interaction with the audience. What are the choices you are faced with and how does your decision-making process look like? What is more important in the end, the data, facts and rationale, or gut feeling and emotions?

About the Speaker

Frank Buters is a jack-of-all-trades (and master of none!). While studying physics he was also a teacher for high school students. Unsecure about his own skills as a physicist, he pursued a PhD in quantum optics at the University of Leiden to continue his physics education. Afterwards, his first “grown-up” job was being a quantitative risk consultant (a quant) for different banks in the Netherlands, forcing him to wear suits rather than shorts and flip flops.

He now works as a data scientist at Schuberg Philis, a Dutch based IT company. Here he uses his past experiences to help shape the data ambitions of Schuberg Philis.
