How do you navigate an increasingly tense political climate? What tools do we have to strengthen political engagement?With the Dutch parliamentary elections approaching at the end of October, the question of how to strengthen democratic participation is more relevant than ever. Join us at the October edition of #DemocracyDrinks The Hague (October 9, 17:00-19:00), an evening highlighting tools and approaches that make democracy more engaging, participatory, and reflective of diverse voices in society.Bram van Montfoort from the <a href="https://democratiecoalitie.nl/" title="https://democratiecoalitie.nl/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Dutch Democracy Coalition (NDC)</a> will introduce the DemocratieWijzer, a tool that helps citizens explore democratic values, navigate political choices, and encourage constructive dialogue in the run-up to the elections. Yasmin Haloui from the <a href="https://www.hscollective.org/" title="https://www.hscollective.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Human Security Collective (HSC)</a>, will discuss participatory research and innovative methods of engaging young people in discussions on democracy and human rights, ensuring their perspectives shape political debate and practice.The session will be moderated by Aicha Chaghouani of the <a href="https://www.nhc.nl/" title="https://www.nhc.nl/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC)</a>. What are the Democracy Drinks?<a href="https://www.humanityhub.org/project/democracy-drinks/" title="https://www.humanityhub.org/project/democracy-drinks/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">#DemocracyDrinks The Hague</a> brings together democracy advocates, thinkers and enthusiasts at our monthly informal networking events. It is a great way of making new contacts and catching up with people you know; for testing ideas and planning actions; for moral support and inspiration. Feel free to invite friends and colleagues that work on or are interested in defending values like democracy, rule of law, human rights… Come along and you will be made welcome!This event series is a collaboration between the Netherlands Helsinki Committee (NHC) and the<a href="https://nimd.org/" title="https://nimd.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD)</a> and <a href="https://www.humanityhub.org/" title="https://www.humanityhub.org/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">The Hague Humanity Hub (THHH)</a>. #DemocracyDrinks were launched in 2018 by Defend Democracy Executive Director Alice Stollmeyer. Over time, #DemocracyDrinks have expanded their reach and have been organized in Aarhus, Berlin, Brussels, Budapest, Copenhagen, Kathmandu, Montreal, The Hague and Washington DC, and soon also in other cities. The events attract a lively mixture of people from NGOs, international institutions, think tanks, national governments and representations, academia, public affairs consultancies, social businesses and other active citizens.
