Design Drafts In Session

Nieuwe Instituut is het nationale museum voor architectuur, design en digitale cultuur. Nieuwe Instituut houdt zich bezig met de grote ontwikkelingen in de maatschappij, zoals de krapte op de woningmarkt, de energietransitie, de opkomst van kunstmatige intelligentie, mobiliteit of het gebruik van de publieke ruimte. Ontwerpers, waaronder architecten en digitale makers, kunnen aan die ontwikkelingen een belangrijke bijdrage leveren. Nieuwe Instituut toont het werk van ontwerpers, brengt mensen met elkaar in contact, verzamelt, ontwikkelt en deelt kennis.

Nieuwe Instituut and PIN-UP invite you to celebrate the launch of Design Drafts In Session, the second iteration of Design Drafts.

During the evening, five selected authors will present their written manifestos for alternative design vocabularies, either digitally or in person. The evening will conclude with a discussion between the writers, with Felix Burrichter (PIN-UP) and Delany Boutkan (Nieuwe Instituut) as moderators.Design Drafts #2: Design Drafts In Session is the result of an open call for up-and-coming and mid-career writers which was announced in April 2023. From this open call, PIN-UP and Nieuwe Instituut selected five writers: Alfonse Chiu, Michael Andrés Forero Parra, Ibrahim Kombarji, Liara Roux, and Angela U. Shyaka. They were encouraged to expand the assumed canon and to highlight gaps in design history in their writing. The result is five essays which are published in the new issue of PIN-UP and will be presented during the evening.

Founded in 2006, it specialises in print and digital features with renowned architects and designers, critical essays, and photography portfolios on contemporary architecture, art and design.Design Drafts Launched in 2022, Design Drafts is a growing writing and publishing network dedicated to exploring and designing what it means to write about design today.
