This webinar will equip you with knowledge about cultural heritage, IKAT textile art of Indonesian people.

Are you interested in cultural heritage and want to discover traditional textile art of Indonesian people? Then this event is perfect for you. IKAT is the dying technique used to create the design on fabric. The word &quot;IKAT&quot; means &quot;bind&quot; in Indonesian, which implicates the a resist dying process where bundles of yarns are bound together in order to create desired patterns. In the webinar that takes place at 11:00 CEST(in Dutch time) and 17:00 WIB/ 18:00 WITA (in Indonesian time) on 19th October, 2020, there will be a talkshow about the cooperation between a Dutch organization, Wassarij and Indonesian artisans. The talk will be given by three Dutch speakers: Laura Luchtman (professional textile and designer), Lidewij van Twilert (professional fashion engineer), and Nikkie Wester, a fututre heritage specialist. They are committed to keeping craftmanship alive and preserving cultural heritage. They will share their thoughts on the art design concept, the value of traditional textile arts and the approach to maintain this cultural legacy. They will also interview the Indonesian artisans for more information about IKAT weaving, which will provide us with more insight about the culture, tradition, as well as the process and technique of making IKAT. Ms. Yetty van der Made-Haning, the director of CCD-NL will be present in the webinar to deliver an opening annoucement.
