Digital Care: Spatial Sounds

LIMA is hét platform in Nederland voor digitale kunst waar nieuwe technologieën, wetenschap, digitale cultuur en kunst worden getoond, waar de discipline actief wordt bevraagd en waar wordt gereflecteerd op het veld en de positie ervan in de maatschappij. Wij vertegenwoordigen kunstenaars en ondersteunen hen in de presentatie en ontwikkeling van nieuw werk. Tegelijkertijd koesteren wij het ‘geheugen’ van de Nederlandse mediakunst met onze digital repository en conserveringsdiensten. LIMA is internationaal pionier en expertisecentrum op het gebied van archivering, conservering en distributie voor mediakunst. LIMA onderzoekt en ontwikkelt in samenwerking met musea, kunstenaars, academies en universiteiten, diensten en tools voor makers en afnemers én methoden en gedrag om op een reflectieve en duurzame manier om te gaan met digitale kunst. Onze aanpak is baanbrekend, uniek en verankerd in een groot (inter-)nationaal multidisciplinair netwerk.

On 12 May, the last edition of our Digital Care programme will highlight 'Spatial Sounds (100dB at 100km/h)' (2000) by Marnix De Nijs and Edwin van der Heide. This interactive installation presented at the exhibition 'REBOOT: Pioneering Digital Art', questions the present-day role of the machine, asking whether we control machines or machines control us. 'Spatial Sounds (100dB at 100km/h)' highlights the threatening but also seductive aspects of autonomous technologies and asks questions about the role of humans in technological developments. Here, 'Spatial Sounds' will be activated for 30 minutes, allowing for interaction. Talks and a discussion follow, starting at 14:15 in Room 1. Sanneke Huisman (curator REBOOT and LI-MA) will introduce Digital Care, Edwin van der Heide and Marnix de Nijs will talk about the practice and process behind the work. Ksenia Fedorova (assistant professor, Leiden University) and Yvonne Dröge Wendel (artist and Head of Fine Arts, Rietveld Academie) will offer perspective on 'Spatial Sounds' and its relation to the notions of humans and non humans, man-machine interaction, auditory perception. This is followed by a Q&amp;A in which the audience is invited to join the conversation.Reserve your ticket for free!
