On 21 February 2026, the Alliance Française de La Haye, in cooperation with the Kunstmuseum Den Haag, invites you to an exceptional event dedicated to Ernest Renan and Baruch Spinoza, two major figures in European thought.This date is no coincidence: 21 February marks the anniversary of Spinoza's death (21 February 1677). Two centuries later, on 21 February 1877, Ernest Renan gave a speech in The Hague in tribute to the philosopher, highlighting the intellectual and moral significance of his work. Combining memory, philosophy and current affairs, this event aims to bring this historic moment back to life and examine its meaning today.The event will take place in two parts. First, there will be a screening of the film Renan, chantre de la nation (Renan, chantre de la Nation) by Jean-Michel Djian, a renowned French journalist, author and director, which traces Renan's career and influence.This will be followed by a round table discussion bringing together specialists and philosophers to explore the links between Renan and Spinoza, as well as their legacy: freedom of thought, religion, reason, nation, modernity... all themes that continue to resonate in our contemporary debates.See you on 21 February 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Kunstmuseum Den Haag.A moment of reflection and dialogue open to all, to celebrate a shared memory and question the place of these great thinkers in today's society.Practial InformationWhen: Friday 21 February Time: 11:00–13:00 Duration: 2 hours (circa 120 minutes) Language: English Number of participants: max. 150 people Where: Aula Kunstmuseum Cost: Free, but a reservation is required
