Feminist Assembly Month Finale

Feminist Assembly Month concludes with the soft launch of the publication series Archival Textures by Tabea Nixdorff and Setareh Noorani, a light dinner and conversation, followed by an evening talk by Gloria Wekker and Chandra Frank.

Programme

5 pm: Soft Launch Archival Textures

At 5 pm – prior to the video contribution by Chandra Frank and the lecture by Gloria Wekker – an informal presentation and soft launch of Archival Textures will take place in the auditorium. The publication series Archival Textures aims to make some of the findings in feminist archives available in print. The first issue includes the essay Survivors: Portrait of the Group Sister Outsider by Gloria Wekker, translated into English for the first time by Jenny Mijnhijmer, among other ephemera documenting the ground-breaking work of Black feminists in the Netherlands.

7.30 pm Light dinner

A light dinner at the Nieuwe Café will bridge the launch and the evening talks, providing a delicious meal free of charge and space for conversation between the two events.

8.30–9 pm Talk by Gloria Wekker with an introductory note by Chandra Frank

Celebrated writer and scholar Gloria Wekker talks about the beginnings of her engaged work, focusing on transnational feminist community building and the role of Black lesbian joy and poetry in her later academic trajectories. Chandra Frank’s introductory statement relates Gloria Wekker’s work to current research and the challenges of living an intersectional feminist life.

Gloria Wekker is best known for her groundbreaking scholarly work in gender studies and sexuality in the Afro-Caribbean region and diaspora, as well as for her research on the persistence of racist and colonial structures in Dutch society.
