This will be the ultimate way to experience both works up-close and personal, where the listener can feel the nostalgia of Barber's "Knoxville", to the raw passion and emotion of Mahler's 5th.These works, performed by an orchestra of 15 musicians, perfectly balance the charm and personal touch of chamber music, with the power and majesty of a full symphony orchestra. This chamber-symphonic experience will be sure to reach out to any listener in the most intimate way.Join Fergus, Katherine and their vibrant ensemble of world-class professional musicians in uncovering the very soul of this music: discovering what makes it so incredible, and also why it's still so prevalent in today's music scene. /Fergus McAlpine graduated from the prestigious Dutch National Conducting Master in 2020 and has performed with the Dutch National Opera, Noord Nederlands Orkest, Amsterdam Sinfonietta, Oper Köln and Ensemble Modern at the Biennale di Venezia. Currently he enjoys a close relationship with the Dutch Touring Opera and Intercontinental Ensemble, and will return to DNO in 2026.He has assisted multiple projects with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, as well as with the Münchner Symphoniker, Residentie Orkest, Ulster Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and CBSO. Fergus was the recipient of the James Conlon Conducting Prize at the 2017 Aspen Music Festival and has been mentored by Johannes Schlaefli, Kenneth Montgomery, Robert Spano, Peter Eötvös and Dame Jane Glover, among others. American soprano Katherine Weber McAlpine is best known as a “confident singing actress with a magnetic stage presence and abundant potential” (Opera News). She has appeared with esteemed companies such as the Aspen Music Festival, Central City Opera, Virginia Opera, and Chicago Opera Theater. In concert she has enjoyed performances with Noord Nederland Orkest, Zemlinsky Chamber Orchestra, Boulder Symphony and was a frequent soloist with the New Philharmonic and Northwest Indiana Symphony. Passionate about outreach and music education, Katherine also sang in multiple productions for Opera for the Young, touring across the American mid-west.
