Compañia Maria "la Serrana" was founded in 2004. Since then, María has produced and starred in 10 of her own productions. María has studied with several of the best flamenco dancers of all times, for example Manuela Carrasco, Manolete and Matilde Coral. But who knows flamenco well, will directly see that she is one of the very few dancers who may call herself from the Farruco school, since she studied with the familly daily for over 8 years. Therefore her dancestyle is gypsy based flamenco: strong yet elegant, sensual and intense.María has traveled the world with her tours. Some of the most important appearances were in the flameno festival of Tanzhaus Düsseldorf, Flamenco Festival Esch sur Alzette, Flamenco festival Brugge, Primera Muestra de Flamenco de Sevilla. She performed several times in The Hague Zuiderstrandtheater (which is the house of Nederlands dans Theater), several times in Paris, London and New YorkMaría also produces every once in a while for collegues. She organised two international tours for farruquito, One for Antonio Molina "Choro"and one for Patricia Guerrero.In Sevilla she is the proud owner of the smallers flamenco venue in the city, that offers upclose flamenco in family setting. the project is called flamencoesencia, and is hosted by T de Triana, in calle Betis 20.

Compañía Maria “la Serrana” brings Santuario to maltaFlamenco from the soul of sacred AndalucíaFlamenco dancer María “La Serrana” learnt from the best: she has been Farruquito’s student for over 8 years, and studied with many more renowned gypsy dancers. Her style is both strong and sensual, a bit savage yet elegant. Santuario will have its première in hometown Sevilla, and travel througout Europe for a month, 7 countriesIn this show María will honor the heart and soul of the most sacred part of the flamenco art and the gypsy community. Flamenco is not only a dance, but as well singing and music. It is the heartfelt cry from the people who were persecuted by the Inquisition in the 16th century Andalucía, the southern part of Spain. Those people were the Jews, Moors and Gypsies. Later, the gypsies developed flamenco further and it became the glue to their society. Most of the styles that are sacred to them belong to the intimacy of the family. But now María will bring those styles to stage, together with a group of the most outstanding and renowned flamenco artists. María will bring two of the most revered flamenco voices of the moment with her: Juan Jose Amador and Pepe de Pura. The guitar music is in the rhythmical hands of Luis Amador. Gypsy dancer Antonio Moreno “Polito” (who is Farruquito’s cousin) will be starring for the second time in compañia María “la Serrana” Maria also invites a local special guest to participate with these artists in the show, whi will be flamenco dancer Carolina Caruana.A sizzling and authentic flamenco evening not to be missed!
