The Art of Rhyme: A night about Rap culture & Emceeing on 27 March in HipHopHuis.
Award-Winning and Critically Acclaimed filmmaker Kevin Fitzgerald will present the director's cut of the cult-classic documentary Freestyle:The Art of Rhyme and play us some tunes!
Rap, also known as emceeing or spitting, is one of the main elements of hip-hop and reggae culture. Using archive footage, the documentary traces the origins of improvised hip-hop to African-American preachers, Jamaican toasters, improvised jazz and spoken word.
The screening of the director's cut will be followed by a panel discussion moderated by Andrew Makkinga with Dutch Emcees Winne, Riico, MC Melodee & E-Life from different generations about the meaning of Rap and the social context in which rap music has developed in recent years.
