Why? The dominant ownership and investment models have caused an emphasis on generating shareholder value, a drive for exits and the economy transgressing our planet’s boundaries. But, change is on its way!

The Stewardship Revolution

A rapidly growing number of ventures and investors - such as Ecosia, De Clique, Moonback and Purpose Ventures - are working on an alternative by adopting ‘steward-ownership’.

This ownership structure permanently secures a company’s mission in its legal DNA and is based on two principles: (1) entrepreneurship equals ownership, and (2) profits serve the company’s purpose. Whilst this model is showing great promise in terms of safeguarding the long-term, positive impact of ventures there is also still a lot to learn and and figure out. Which is exactly what we’ll do on May 20th!

We wonder

1. What does it mean to become a steward-owned company that belongs to itself?
2. Why did other founders choose the steward-ownership model and what did they learn during this journey?
3. How does this model impact the relationship between investors, founders and the company?
