Identity and Normativity 2022: Interdisciplinary lecture series

Some groups are entitled to special rights while others are not. Which groups have these rights and why do they?

From March to May 2022, the Department of Political Science at Aarhus University is hosting an interdisciplinary lecture series on identity and normativity. This series is a part of the research project “A Sense of Belonging” led by Associate Professor Marion Godman and funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark.There will be six guest speakers. Each speaker will give a public lecture and then partake in a workshop the following day. Normally, the public lectures will occur on Monday evenings and the workshops on the following Tuesday. The speakers are:Tariq Modood, University of Bristol (March 14-15)Public lecture: Multiculturalism without Privileging LiberalismChaim Gans, Tel Aviv University (March 21-22)Public lecture: Liberationist vs. Proprietary NationalismLeonie Huddy, Stony Brook University (March 28-29)Public lecture: The Political Psychology of National AttachmentsAzar Gat, Tel Aviv University (April 20-21 – exceptionally on Wed.-Thursday)Public lecture: Is nationalism recent, invented and superficial?Alan Patten, Princeton University (May 9-10)Public lecture: Religious Liberty and Equal TreatmentRon Mallon, Washington University in St. Louis (May 23-34)Public lecture: Moral Dimensions of Accumulation MechanismsPublic lectures will run from 17h00 to 19h15 at the Small Legal Auditorium. The workshops will run from 10h to 16h, rooms to be determined. Please register in order to confirm your place. For those registering a week before the public lecture, you will be entitled to a free glass of wine at the end of the talk. PLEASE note that the tickets are solely to register for the public lecture - the workshop cannot accommodate 90 people.
