The International Film Festival Rotterdam, the Netherlands association of Cinema Editors and TEMPO Federation of Film Editors Organizations are teaming up for the first ever International Film Editors Event at IFFR on Sunday, February 2, 2025.

Film editors from around the world, and IFFR Pro badge holders, are invited to join an international panel, featuring Jay Rabinowitz, ACE (USA), Joana Scrinzi (Austria) and Özcan Vardar (Turkey). They will be discussing their work and will share their experiences shaping stories for a diverse audience and global distribution.

The event will take place from 18h30 to 19h30 at Studio 8 of De Doelen in Rotterdam. Attendees are also invited for a mixer at Stadscafé Weena from 19h45, after the panel session.

About the panelists:

Jay Rabinowitz, ACE is a jury member for the Robby Müller Award, which will be presented at IFFR. He has enjoyed a long creative collaboration with director Jim Jarmusch on films like COFFEE AND CIGARETTS, GHOST DOG: THE WAY OF THE SAMURAI and NIGHT ON EARTH. He is also well-known for movies like REQUIEM FOR A DREAM (Darren Aranofsky) and THE TREE OF LIFE (Terrence Malick), and Academy Award-winners 8 MILE (Curtis Hanson) and AFFLICTION (Paul Schrader).

Joana Scrinzi won the Austrian Film Award for Best Editing for GREAT FREEDOM (Sebastian Meise). Her work also includes Händl Klaus’ MARCH (Locarno Silver Bear) and TOMCAT (Berlinale Teddy Award). THE VILLAGE NEXT TO PARADISE (Mo Harawe) was featured in Un Certain Regard at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival and PERLA (Alexandra Makarova) is competing in the Tiger Awards at IFFR this year. Joana is also a Board Member of the Austrian Editors Association and their TEMPO Representative.

Özcan Vardar has a long-standing working relationship with director Emin Alper. Their feature film BEYOND THE HILLS won the Caligari Award at the Berlinale 2012, and Özcan won the European Film Award for Best European Editing in 2022 for BURNING DAYS, which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival that year. Özcan has co-founded the Turkish Editors Organization KUDA, and is First Chair of TEMPO. At the IFFR, Pelin Esmer’s AND THE REST WILL FOLLOW is featured in IFFR’s Harbour section.
