About this event

Agenda (14.00 - 17.30h)

Opening by George Ubachs (Managing Director EADTU, coordinator EMBED)

Framing Blended learning, teaching, and education, Stephan Poelmans (KU Leuven)

Despite the fact that blended learning, teaching and education have been labelled as ‘the new normal’ and are being conceived by some as a ‘foregone conclusion’, they are still ambiguously defined and discussed in the literature. Conceptual and operational problems induce important challenges to scholars and practitioners in higher education. In this presentation, we will elaborate on operational definitions and dimensions of blended learning, teaching, and education, and present empirical evidence of working practices and policies in the partner institutions of the EMBED project.

The Maturity Model for Blended Education, Wiebe Dijkstra (TU Delft)

In this presentation, we will explain the process of the development of the maturity model via research of existing maturity models, experience from case studies and a Delphi study to validate the model. Next, we will explain the model with all dimensions and indicators for the micro- (within a course or programme) and meso- (within the university as an institute institute) level.

Exchanging experiences with the EMBED Maturity Model, Wiebe Dijkstra (TU Delft)

In this session, we focus on how to use the Maturity Model for Blended Education and what is the best way to use it within your university in an interactive session starting from experience in participating universities. Via a SWOT-analysis, we will focus on the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the model.

Is Your Education Well Blended? A MOOC on the Maturity Model for Blended Education, Yi-Shan Tsai (University of Edinburgh)

In this session, we introduce a MOOC developed based on the outputs of the EMBED project and how it can be used for continuous professional development of teaching staff, professionals and leaders in the context of blended education. In particular, we will examine the opportunities for blended learning in a post-digital world.

Travel

To the building from Brussels North Station

On foot: 14 min. (RECOMMENDED ROUTE)

  • The recommended walking and cycling route from the Noordstation always runs via the Willebroekkaai. An alternative route is via the Dijleweg. This road is less accessible due to the cobblestones.

By bus: 5 min.

  • About every 5 minutes a bus leaves from the North station or the Herman Teirlinck building during the peak hours. In the afternoon, buses also travel to and from Rogierplein. They also make a stopover at the Brussels North station. The service starts at 5.30 am and ends at 10 pm.

Follow the bus with the app

  • With the Tour & Taxis App you can follow where the buses are and what time they will arrive. The app is supported by iOS and Android. Download this app via www.tt-app.be.

Entry and exit stop

  • The shuttle bus stops in front of the main entrance of Brussels-North station (on Bolivarplein at the side entrance of the Proximus building). At Thurn & Taxis, buses stop between the Herman Teirlinck building and the Royal Warehouse.
