International Clinic: East Asia

Nieuwe Instituut is het nationale museum voor architectuur, design en digitale cultuur. Nieuwe Instituut houdt zich bezig met de grote ontwikkelingen in de maatschappij, zoals de krapte op de woningmarkt, de energietransitie, de opkomst van kunstmatige intelligentie, mobiliteit of het gebruik van de publieke ruimte. Ontwerpers, waaronder architecten en digitale makers, kunnen aan die ontwikkelingen een belangrijke bijdrage leveren. Nieuwe Instituut toont het werk van ontwerpers, brengt mensen met elkaar in contact, verzamelt, ontwikkelt en deelt kennis.

<p>Join the International Clinic to gain a deeper understanding of the creative landscape of East Asia (China, South Korea, Japan). Network with designers and funders, plus explore the role of design in addressing global challenges.</p><p>The event offers presentations, conversations, and break-out sessions to deepen understanding of the East Asian creative landscape and network with funders and fellow designers. This event will be followed by a network drink at Nieuwe Instituut, and coincides with our Free Thursday Night, which allows guests to visit the exhibitions for free and join a Thursday Night Detour.</p><h3>Programme</h3><ul><li>15:00 hr: Doors open</li><li>15:30 hr: Word of welcome by Francien van Westrenen (Head of Agency, Nieuwe Instituut)</li><li>15:40 hr: Presentations by East Asian platforms and collectives in the Netherlands: Fin Zhao (Co-founder, <a href="https://www.instagram.com/chaxartxams/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CHAxART</a>), Emiko Chujo (Founder and director, <a href="https://www.monojapan.nl/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Mono Japan</a>), Kurina Sohn and Soyoun Kim (Co-initiators, <a href="https://kazerne.com/en/design/past-exhibitions/transcrossing-identities-neenee-collective/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">NeeNee Collective</a>), and Belle Phromchanya and Darunee Terdtoontaveedej (Co-founders, <a href="https://nonnativenative.com/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Non Native Native</a>)</li><li>16:20 hr: Conversation with CHAxART, Mono Japan, NeeNee Collective, and Non Native Native, moderated by Jori Snels (University of Amsterdam)</li><li>16:45 hr: Break-out session with Ian Yang (Advisor China, Japan and South Korea, DutchCulture) and Monique Knapen (Coordinator China, <a href="https://creativenl.nl/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">CreativeNL</a>/<a href="https://www.bodw.com/en" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Business of Design Week Hong Kong</a>)</li><li>17:30 hr: Network drinks</li><li>18:30 hr: End of programme</li></ul><h3>International Clinic</h3><p>Nieuwe Instituut’s international clinics, organized in collaboration with DutchCulture, the <a href="https://www.stimuleringsfonds.nl/en/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Creative Industry Fund NL</a> and the Dutch diplomatic network, provide a space for Netherlands-based designers and creatives to learn about opportunities for international collaboration and exchange whilst hearing from practitioners in the field.
