Kendra Borgen: Baked Alaskan
Overview
Mad Cow Comedy presents Solos at the Shed; a series of great solo shows in the most intimate of venues! On Friday 27th March, join us for "Baked Alaskan" by Kendra Borgen.
About the Show:
The moment people find out Kendra's from Alaska, she becomes a human FAQ. 'Have you seen a bear?' 'Is it always dark?' 'I loved Northern Exposure.'
She's been Dutch for twenty years, lives in Amsterdam (a city also famous for being baked), and has built an entire life here. But Alaska follows her everywhere. People want the postcard version - moose, northern lights, rugged wilderness - but the real story about why she left, how she ended up in Amsterdam, and whether she misses her family is way funnier and more exciting.
This show is about being trapped by your own origin story, especially when the interesting parts don't fit polite conversation.
About Kendra Borgen:
Born into a Reagan-era hunter-gatherer society in Alaska, Kendra started playing saxophone at age 8 inspired by the musical stylings of Lisa Simpson. After surviving the treacherous journey down the infamous Alaskan-Canadian hi-way in 1999 to study music in Oregon, she left the US in 2004 in search of a better life (and an affordable Master’s degree), buying a one-way ticket to Amsterdam never to look back and has been entertaining folks in Amsterdam ever since. Come listen to Kendra’s journey from the hilariously rugged outback of Alaska to the chaos of Amsterdam’s canals.
