Event description

Description

In this Lecture-Conversation “Reading Europe”, Jesús Carrasco (European Prize of Literature 2016) and Pablo Valdivia (Chair European Literature and Culture at the University of Groningen), taking as point of departure Carrasco’s last novel La tierra que pisamos, will discuss and engage with a debate about literary texts that have configured Europe’s transnational cultural imaginary for different generations of citizens, intellectuals and artists since 1945. Today, under a very specific conjuncture of crisis, literature has a fundamental role in our societies not only for the mapping of the European disjoints but also for the articulation of alternative cultural imaginaries that could lead to social, political and artistic renewal.
