Lesson Development Matchmaking | Open Educational Resources | Summer Drinks
RST-NL & DS4NES event for research software trainers focusing on collaborative lesson development and open educational resources
---
On Thursday the 18th of June RST-NL & DS4NES organise a summer event for research software trainers across the Netherlands.
Join fellow trainers to exchange ideas, find inspiration and connect around collaborative lesson development and open educational resources. If you're looking to share work, start something new, simply see what others are building, or learn about best practices, this day is designed to support you.
The event is organised in the historical Snijzaal of the Anatomiegebouw overlooking the Utrecht canals. We'll wrap up with summer drinks in the garden.
Planning:
10.00 - 10.20 Walk-in
10.20 - 10.30 Plenary welcome
10.30 - 11.15 (Morning Session) DS4NES Lesson Development (Irina Motoc, TU Delft)
11.15 - 11.30 Coffee / Tea break
11.30 - 13.00 DS4NES: Topic Discussion & Matchmaking Rounds
13.00 - 14.00 Lunch
14.00 - 16.00 (Afternoon Session) Open Educational Resources (Angelos Konstantinidus, RUG)
16.00 - 17.00 Drinks
Morning Session:
In collaboration with the TDCC-NES project Digital Skills for NES (DS4NES), the RST-NL network is gathering to connect people around lesson development ideas. Participants can pitch topics, explore shared interests, and form small teams. Teams formed during the session can apply for a free spot in the Carpentries Collaborative Lesson Development Training (CLDT) via the DS4NES project!
You’re equally welcome to join without a pitch - this is also a space to learn what others are working on and find ways to contribute.
Lunch:
We’ll provide a lunch buffet with sandwiches, wraps, and fresh juice. Coffee, tea, fruit, and snacks will be available throughout the day.
Afternoon Session:
This interactive workshop supports research software trainers in strengthening their use of Open Educational Resources (OER).
Using the 5R framework (Retain, Reuse, Revise, Remix, Redistribute), participants will work with a range of open programming resources - beyond the Carpentries - including open curricula, interactive platforms, executable environments.
Through hands-on, collaborative activities, you’ll evaluate, adapt, and combine materials to design learning experiences for your own training context, and real-world open research software artefacts.
The session emphasises learning by doing, participation in communities of practice and open pedagogy: participants engage not only as users of open resources, but as contributors who shape, contextualise and share them.
Learning outcomes
- Critically evaluate open programming resources for their pedagogical fit across different research software training contexts.
- Reuse, revise, and remix existing OER to suit specific training contexts
- Design experiential and problem-centred learning activities appropriate for research software engineers.
Summer Drinks
We’ll close the day with drinks and snacks in the garden of the Anatomiegebouw, right along the canals. A relaxed moment to continue conversations and enjoy the (hopefully sunny) late-afternoon together.
Attendance & Registration
- You can register for the morning session, afternoon session, or both.
- Curious about matchmaking but not pitching? Stay on for lunch or grab lunch before the afternoon? Just joining for drinks? All combinations are welcome.
- Please register via Eventbrite so we can plan the space and catering.
- Attendance is free of charge.
