1st Local Color Community Workshop - Fresh Indigo Dye Edition

TextileLab Amsterdam invites its community of urban dye growers and curious color enthusiasts to join the first of the Local Color workshops series. On a summer evening @Marineterrein we take the opportunity to learn and connect to one another, through our mutual love for plants and colors, getting our fabrics - and hands! - dyed in shades of blue with fresh indigo leaves. <h3>What to expect?</h3>Together we will explore how the Japanese indigo plant can be used for printing and dyeing fabric in its “fresh” state. The TextileLab Amsterdam team will share its knowledge by giving an overview of this amazing color and showcase different ways to use the fresh indigo leaves. <h3>What to bring?</h3>First of all, we hope you will bring your enthusiasm and willingness to learn and share! Are you a Local Color community member and have you been growing a Japanese indigo plant? Then your plant is hopefully big enough to have its leaves harvested and you can dye with your own home-grown color!Detailed instructions on how to harvest your indigo plant and how to best preserve its color will be sent out by email before the workshop. You will need to bring the leaves with you, so stay tuned and in case you don’t receive the instructions before, please contact us via localcolor@waag.org.Are you just hearing about Local Color now and curious to learn about fresh indigo dye?If you don’t have your own Japanese indigo plant, do not worry! We still welcome you to the workshop and will have some leaves ready from our dye garden for you to dye with.Fabrics and additional tools will be provided by us. Since the beginning of this year TextileLab is actively leading the <a href="https://waag.org/nl/project/local-color/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Local Color</a> project and its research.
