In this interactive interview session, we’ll dive into the real stories behind MedTech entrepreneurship with Carmen van Vilsteren. We’ll explore her personal journey and the lessons she’s learned while shaping the Dutch MedTech landscape. Expect insights on what it really takes to build and scale MedTech ventures, from bridging the gap between technology and clinical needs, to navigating collaboration with academia, investors and industry. We’ll also touch on the role of leadership, diversity and female founders in creating a more sustainable and inclusive MedTech ecosystem.

Who is Carmen van Vilsteren?
The central theme of Carmen van Vilsteren’s career has always been high-tech innovation in healthcare, which is also her passion. In her opinion, sustainable innovation means finding more effective and affordable solutions to the problems faced by healthcare. And this sustainable innovation can only be realized if we focus on social as well as technical innovation.
Carmen is the former Director Strategic Area Health at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) and director of Eindhoven Medtech Innovation Center (e/MTIC), former CEO of Microsure and former Senior Director in several departments of Philips Medical Systems. Carmen is now putting all her energy into being an angel investor and coach for female CEO's in Life Sciences & Health. She received the Female Tech Hero of the Year Award at the December 2025 Fe+male Tech Heroes Awards Show, where she was dubbed the “MedTech Maven” of the region.
Carmen understands technology to the core but also knows how to translate that knowledge into vision, team and results. She’s a true MedTech maven, so a lot to learn from her!
