Mallet Collective - Georgi Tsenov & Ramon Lormans - marimba

Mallet Collective takes the train on its new album, Views from Dutch Trains.

All the pieces on the album are about or can be associated with train travel. Think of passing landscapes, crowded platforms, unexpected encounters, moments of reflection, or a compartment full of screaming children. Composers Anastas Paev and Jannum Kruidhof give their own vision on this theme in works written especially for this album. Composer Jacob ter Veldhuis wrote his Views from a Dutch train, which forms the basis of the album, back in 1992. Works by Anthony Fiumara and Jo, Antal, and Misha Sporck, which are also featured on the CD, will also be performed. The Mallet Collective plays in varying formations and consists of marimba players Ramon Lormans and Georgi Tsenov for this project.

Train journeys stimulate the imagination. You meet strangers, see constantly changing landscapes, and have time to reflect. But the train is more than just beautiful views. Sometimes you meet someone unexpected in your compartment. Sometimes you find yourself standing on a crowded platform with lots of other people. And sometimes you just manage to catch the last train home as evening falls.
