About this event

Access and availability of clean drinking water are becoming more difficult by the day, and it is often said that the next world war will be over this precious resource. Malta takes the lead in finding solutions, for instance through desalination (the process of turning seawater into drinking water). Malta’s campaign for its elections to the UN Security Council in June this year, highlights the themes of Security, Sustainability and Solidarity. Water and access to it plays a fundamental role in all three priority themes.

On the 19th of May at 19.00 a panel discussion will take place with experts on the role of Malta in the UN Security Council and of desalination in climate change.

With: H.E. Vanessa Vrazier (Permanent Representative of Malta to the UN), H.E. Professor Simone Borg (Ambassador for Climate Action), H.E. Karel van Oosterom (Ambassador to the United Kingdom and former Ambassador to the UN Security Council for The Netherlands) an Mr. Manuel Sapiano (CEO of the Energy and Water Agency)
