About this event
Welcome to the sixth Naturescapes Collaboratory meeting!
Join us for an overview of the Naturescapes Scorecard, a tool to help policymakers, communities, and researchers assess the synergies and trade-offs of NBS and how their benefits are distributed. Naturescapes Scorecards quantify the potential contributions of Naturescapes to address climate, biodiversity and sustainability challenges and will eventually be shared in a user-friendly, interactive format on our project website.
This session will be co-hosted by Dr Robert McDonald (The Nature Conservancy) and Dr Laszlo Pinter (Central European University), who will discuss the quantitative and qualitative work that has gone into developing the Scorecard.
Agenda:
Introduction (5 mins)
Part 1 (15 mins): What is the Naturescapes Scorecard?
- How does the scorecard work?
- Example 1: Walk through of an example of NBS site
- Example 2: GIS example of a site
Part 2 (10 mins) Why is the Scorecard needed/Why are we creating the Scorecard?
- Links to policy and decision-making
- Architecture of scorecard
Q&A (5 min):
Poll question:
- How might you use the scorecard?
- What other potential uses do you see for the Scorecard?
Part 3 Next Steps (10 mins)
- Next steps
- Discuss the interface that will be developed for the website
Q&A (10 min):
Poll question:
- What features of the Scorecard do you find the most helpful/interesting?
- What functionality would be helpful for the website?
As always, we want the Collaboratory to be a space for shared learning and collaboration amongst the Naturescapes network(www.naturescapes-project.com). If you have any questions, please reach out to JJ Blackwatters at j.e.blackwatters@uu.nl.

What is NATURESCAPES?
The focus of the NATURESCAPES project is nature-based solutions from a landscape perspective. We are exploring how this is happening and adding up on the ground, and what it means for nature and society.
Can we work with multiple nature-based solutions to create outcomes that address long-standing socio-economic challenges, enhance biodiversity and respond to climate change? Or do we face trade-offs between different places, people and outcomes?
Working in a transdisciplinary consortium involving universities, consultants and NGOs, we hope to identify how new kinds of NATURESCAPES can generate transformative change for the future.
