About this event
As part of the event for the ‘naze naze: weaving slowly’ exhibition, CHAxART invites SHEN Yiren and ZHANG Zinong, the overseas representatives of naze naze, to share their latest activities in person at CHAxART space from 3 pm to 4 pm on the closing day of the exhibition (8 October 2022).
naze naze in Dali
In addition to the news of the Dulong project, they will introduce naze naze’s future collaborations with weavers from other regions with a longstanding weaving tradition in China, particularly the Dong people in Dali.
The name Dali comes from the Chinese saying “daji dali” — “auspiciousness and great fortune”. Far from the hustle and bustle of urban areas, the village of Dong people is nestled deep in the mountains, close to Lidong creek. In 2019, the World Monuments Fund and Beijing’s architectural studio ATLAS invited the naze naze team to participate in the Dali Project. The project aims to bring to light the local women’s hand-weaving techniques, unleashing the women’s and the community’s cultural potential and generating sustainable economic opportunities.
