Het North Sea String Quartet is hét Nederlandse jazz strijkkwartet van dit moment. De improviserende strijkers schijnen een nieuw licht op het aloude strijkkwartet met hun uitgesproken improvisaties, innovatieve speelwijzen en eigenzinnige composities, geïnspireerd door moderne jazz, wereldmuziek, modern klassiek en EDM. Ze borduren hiermee voort op een jonge traditie die begon bij het Amerikaanse Turtle Island Quartet in 1985.
Het kwartet is al jarenlang internationaal actief en speelde op toonaangevende festivals waaronder North Sea Jazz, Salzburg Jazz & the City en Canarias Jazz & Más. De drang om de talenten van het kwartet zelf centraal te zetten resulteert in de release van hun debuutalbum Splunge, vol sprankelende eigen composities en levendige improvisaties.

The North Sea String Quartet is the Dutch jazz string quartet of the moment. The improvising string players shine a new light on the time-honored string quartet through their outspoken improvisations, innovative playing styles and idiosyncratic compositions, inspired by modern jazz, world music, modern classical and EDM. In doing so, they build on a young tradition that began with the American Turtle Island Quartet in 1985.
The quartet has been active internationally for many years and has played at major festivals such as North Sea Jazz, Salzburg Jazz & the City and Canarias Jazz & Más. The urge to focus on the quartet’s own talents results in the release of their debut album Splunge, full of sparkling compositions and lively improvisations.
