Omnibus: Mind the Map

Nieuwe Instituut is het nationale museum voor architectuur, design en digitale cultuur. Nieuwe Instituut houdt zich bezig met de grote ontwikkelingen in de maatschappij, zoals de krapte op de woningmarkt, de energietransitie, de opkomst van kunstmatige intelligentie, mobiliteit of het gebruik van de publieke ruimte. Ontwerpers, waaronder architecten en digitale makers, kunnen aan die ontwikkelingen een belangrijke bijdrage leveren. Nieuwe Instituut toont het werk van ontwerpers, brengt mensen met elkaar in contact, verzamelt, ontwikkelt en deelt kennis.

In the first iteration of Omnibus: Free the map and [UN]FINISHED: Atlas of Athens' Incomplete Buildings - A Story of Hidden Antimonuments.

The evening revolves around two new publications: Free the map, a new cartography of borders and migration, and [UN]FINISHED: Atlas of Athens' Incomplete Buildings - A Story of Hidden Antimonuments. The event concludes with the screening of the video projection Barbaresou Legacy or The Cursed One by Maria Lalou and Skafte Aymo-Boot.During the evening author Professor Henk van Houtum will present the content of the book with a follow-up of De Vormforensen (Anne-Marie Geurink and Annelou van Griensven) who designed Free the map. The publication is a plea for a new cartographic narrative. Free the map is a call to action to encourage the creation of an inclusive and human cartographic window on the worldAfter this, graphic designer Sam de Groot, artist and researcher Maria Lalou and architect Skafte Aymo-Boot will discuss [UN]FINISHED: Atlas of Athens’ Incomplete Buildings – A Story of Hidden Antimonuments. Drawing on ten years of research, they will share their thoughts and choices in translating an archive into a book.The evening will conclude with the screening of the two-channel video projection Barbaresou Legacy or The Cursed One by Lalou and Aymo-Boot.This is the first iteration of Omnibus, a new series of book events. In each edition, presentations and talks will highlight two new publications.
